Sunday: Andrew Chesnut
R. Andrew Chesnut, PhD, of Virginia Commonwealth University, is Professor of Religious Studies and Bishop Walter F. Sullivan Endowed Chair in Catholic Studies. A specialist in Latin American Catholicism and Pentecostalism, he is the author of three books and numerous journal articles and book chapters. His latest book, Devoted to Death: Santa Muerte, the Skeleton Saint (Oxford University Press, 2012), is the first academic study in English of the fastest growing new religious movement in the Americas, the cult of the Mexican folk saint of death. Professor Chesnut is a prominent media commentator on religious matters and writes regularly for The Huffington Post.
